In 1984, the national output of raw coal was 772 million tons, the output of chemical fertilizers was 148,200 tons, and the output of cement was 121.08 million tons, ranking third in the world. The output of steel is 43.37 million tons, ranking fourth in the world; the output of crude oil is 114.53 million tons, ranking seventh in the world. In 1984, the total number of enterprises nationwide reached 437,200, the total investment in fixed assets was 118.52 billion yuan, and the number of employees was 475.97 million.

China's agricultural production and agricultural economy have entered an epoch-making historic turning point. Rural economic reforms have greatly liberated social productive forces, and agricultural production has seen an unprecedented good situation. During the "Sixth Five-Year Plan" period, the average annual growth of agricultural output value was 8.1%, which was the fastest period of agricultural development since the founding of the People's Republic of China. In 1984, the total agricultural output value reached 306.2 billion yuan, an increase of 9.9% over the previous year, and the total output of cereal oil increased by 5.1%, 21.1% and 12.3% over the previous year. Compared with major countries in the Asia-Pacific region, China's production of major agricultural products is in a leading position, with the exception of some products. For example, in 1984, the total output of grains was 40.07.12 million tons, the total output of cotton was 6.077 million tons, and the total output of tung oil was 75,000 tons, ranking first in the world. China's agricultural production is transforming into specialization, commercialization and modernization. In 1984, 3.19 million tons of grain were exported, and in 1985 it reached 5 million tons. According to estimates by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, China is likely to become a major food exporter by 1990 due to the "extraordinary growth" of China's agriculture.
